New scary movies coming this month: Exorcisms, Feddy's, and Jigsaw

by Charles Gerian

It’s fall, y’all!

(How tired are you of hearing that?)

With fall comes the changing of the leaves, pumpkin-spiced everything, and of course: horror movies, books, TV specials, and more.

While we’ve already been pretty spoiled this summer by films like A HAUNTING IN VENICE, THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, and THE NUN II, there’s still more to come.

This Friday sees the return to the Saw universe as well with SAW X which takes place directly after the first film chronicling a cancer-ridden John Kramer who traps the doctors that gave him a fake cancer removal procedure.

SAW X released September 29.

THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER is a continuation of the iconic William Friedkin horror film THE EXORCIST, this time following two little girls who do everything together…including becoming possessed and turned into vomit-spewing, foul-mouthed, demons.

The girls’ parents have no choice but to look towards someone that has had experience with possession before…Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn reprising her role) whose own daughter infamously was used as the vessel for the demon Pazuzu in the original.

THE EXORCIST BELIEVER releases October 6.

On streaming, V/H/S/85 hits Shudder October 6 as well.

V/H/S/85 takes viewers on a journey into the grim underbelly of the forgotten 1980s. Unveiled through a made-for-TV documentary, five chilling tales emerge: scientists observe an unusual boy fixated on his TV, kids embark on a lake skiing adventure, a TV crew fights to survive a natural disaster, the early days of VR awaken something terrifying, and a deadly dream is captured on tape. Sinister secrets of the 1980s come to life in a way you’ve never seen before

And another streaming release for October 6 is PET SEMATARY: BLOODLINES releasing on Paramount+.

BLOODLINES is a prequel to the 2019 PET SEMATARY remake.

In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding, and once unearthed has the power to destroy everything in its path.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S has been in development as a film for years ever since the videogame became a multi-million-media franchise with books, comics, and toys galore.

The film follows a struggling single father played by “Hunger Games” alumn Josh Hutcherson who gets a gig as the security guard of a derelict children’s themed arcade and pizzeria called Freddy Fazbears.

It doesn’t take long for him to realize that this nightmarish Chuck E. Cheese is inhabited by several blood-thirty animatronic mascots that, at night, become sentient…and deeply deranged.

Now our protagonist has to unravel the disturbing secrets around Freddy’s and see if he can survive….FIVE…NIGHTS…AT…you get the point.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’s releases October 27.

On October 30, the month ends with HELL HOUSE LLC ORIGINS: THE CHARMICHAEL MANOR on Shudder.

A group of cold case investigators stay at the Carmichael Manor, site of the grisly and unsolved murders of the Carmichael family back in the eighties. After four nights, the group was never heard from again. What is discovered on their footage is even more disturbing than anything found on the Hell House tapes
