Blackwell FFA; 4-H win big at Kay County Livestock Show

The 94th annual Kay County Junior Livestock show was held at the end of February, providing a huge win for Blackwell 4-H and FFA students.

The banquet was catered by Los Potros, and Blackwell's 4-H and FFA students were sponsored by: First National Bank, JSJ Trucking, Central National Bank, Dr. Sarah Campbell DDS, Oklahoma Ag Credit, D-8 Farms, RCB Bank, Overman Farms, The Lessert Family, Tyson Jackson of Farm Bureau, Kelle Oil Company, Kenneth Kivett, Sneath Farms, Kris Mapel, Splash N'Dash Car Wash, Mark Estep of State Farm Insurance, Scott and Cristin Overman, The Jimmy Beck Memorial, J.D. and Jaylene Soulek, Jackson Jewelry of Enid, Larry and Barbara Tripp, Western Feed Mills, Farmers Grain of Nardin, SGS Gym, Patterson Farms, Quiddy's Cafe, Robbie Bergman, Tera Sneath, Blackwell Tire, OK AG Credit, P&K Equipment, Stride Bank, Circle S Dairy, J&S Farms, The Crazy Rooster, Helena Chemical, and Shepherd Oil Company.

The night began with an introduction from the masters of ceremonies, Gabrielle Buellesfeld and Cooper Orr from the Blackwell FFA Chapter. Then, show awards were given out.

The Grand Champion Steer Award, sponsored by Jeff and Lisa Kubik and Oklahoma Ag Credit, went to Cooper Orr. The Reserve Grand Champion Steer Award, sponsored by Buellesfeld Cattle Company and Oklahoma Ag Credit, went to Tucker Jeffries of the Blackwell FFA Chapter.

The Bronze Medallion Gilt Award, sponsored by Overman Farms, went to Vance Byers of the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter.

The Champion Angus Steer Award, sponsored by Blubaugh Angus Ranch, went to Tucker Jeffries. The Champion Crossbred Steer Award, sponsored by Kelle Oil, went to Cooper Orr.

The Champion Commercial Pen Award, sponsored by Kay County AFR Local Chapter 306, went to James Tripp of the Blackwell FFA Chapter.

Blackwell FFA succeeded in the heifers category. The Champion Angus Heifer Award went to Kent Tripp, while the Champion Charolais Influence Heifer Award went to Cooper Orr. The two awards were sponsored by Blubaugh Angus Ranch and Blisful Acres, respectively.

Kent Tripp won the Champion Red Angus Heifer Award, sponsored by Blisful Acres. OK-Okies 4-H showwoman Jessica Hobaugh took home the Shorthorn Heifer Award, sponsored by W-O Ranch.

Blackwell had one win in barrows, where Jake Smith received the Spotted Poland Barrow Award, sponsored by Neal and Brian Balzer Show Pigs.

For gilts, the OK-Okies 4-H dominated. Hayden Johnson won the Chester White Gilt Award; Jordyn Smith won the Hampshire Gilt Award; Hayden Johnson won the Spotted Poland Gilt Award; and Reid Buellesfeld won the Yorkshire Gilt Award. All were sponsored by Two Rivers Co-op.

For ewe lambs, two more OK-Okies 4-H members won. The Champion Hampshire Ewe Lamb Award, sponsored by Northern Oklahoma College Ag Sciences, went to Aiden Patterson. The Suffolk Ewe Lamb Award, sponsored by Silvertop Farm and Vineyards, went to Daniel Bergfield.

Kent Tripp won the Reserve Champion Commercial Pen Award, sponsored by Kay County AFR Local Chapter 306.

For beef showmanship, the Champion Junior Beef Showmanship Award, sponsored by 4B Cattle-Lance and Kelli Bergman, went to Bodie Jeffries of the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter. The Champion Intermediate Beef Showmanship Award, sponsored by Jason and Kim Shanks, went to Tucker Jeffries.

For swine showmanship, the Champion Junior Swine Showmanship Award, sponsored by the Leo Hazaleus Memorial, went to Jordyn Smith of the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter. The Champion Intermediate Swine Award, sponsored by Kevin Frazier, went to Reid Buellesfeld of the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter.

The Top County Produced Steer Award, sponsored by Tyson Jackson of Farm Bureau Insurance, went to Tucker Jeffries. The Top County Produced Barrow Award, also sponsored by Jackson, went to Tabor Steelmon of the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter.

Vance Byers of the OK-Okies was recognized with the Top County Produced Gilt Award, sponsored by Neal and Brian Balzer Show Pigs.

The Champion Cattle Fitting Team Award, sponsored by Hobaugh Dozer, went to Reid Buellesfeld, Bodie Jeffries, and Tucker Jeffries.

The premium line-up for steers awards went as follows: The Grand Champion Steer Award went to Cooper Orr; the Reserve Grand Champion Steer Award went to Tucker Jeffries; the Second Place Angus Steer Award went to James Tripp; the First Place Crossbred Steer Award went to Jessica Hobaugh; the Second Place Crossbred Steer Award went to Bodie Jeffries; the Fourth Place Crossbred Steer Award went to Gabrielle Buellesfeld; and the Fourth Place Crossbred Steer Award went to Reid Buellesfeld.

The Commercial Pens Award went to James and Kent Tripp for Champion Commercial and Reserve Champion Commercial.

The First Place Angus Heifer Award went to Kent Tripp.

The First Place Hampshire Barrow Award went to Tabor Steelmon; the Second Place Spotted Poland Barrow Award went to Jake Smith; and the Second Place Yorkshire Barrow Award went to Redi Buellesfeld. The First Place Hampshire Barrow Award went to Jordyn Smith, and the First Place Crossbred Barrow Award went to Hayden Johnson.

Bodie Jeffries received the Champion Carcass Swine Award.

The Bronze Medallion Gilt Award went to Vance Byers; the Second Place Commercial Gilt Award went to MaKynna Smith; the First Place Chester White Gilt Award went to Hayden Johnson; and the First Place Chester White Gilt Award went to Tucker Jeffries.

For lambs, the Second Place Hampshire Wether Lamb Award went to Nolan Overman, while the Second Place Natural Wether Lamb Award went to Daniel Bergfield. The Second Place Hampshire Wether Lamb Award went to Hope Henderson, and the First Place Suffolk Wether Lamb Award went to Riley Price. Nolan Overman received the First Place Commercial Ewe Lamb Award.

Rounding out the Blackwell winners was Harlie May from the OK-Okies 4-H Chapter, who received the Class 3 Wether Goat Award.
