Trash-off day set for June 3: VOLUNTEERS WANTED

by Charles Gerian

The City of Blackwell and the Blackwell Area Chamber of Commerce are coming together for the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful organization's “Great American Cleanup,” which is set for June 3.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director John Robertson said that the Chamber has historically coordinated the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful trash pickup each April, but the coronavirus pandemic put those plans on hold, he said.
“

In the past, we have had many churches and youth groups participate in helping with the trash gathering in local parks and adult volunteers along roadsides,” Robertson said.
Currently, the Chamber and city officials are seeking to find any and all groups that would be interested in the event.

Church groups, community-based clubs, school groups seeking volunteer hours, and others are all encouraged to email comdev@blackwellok.org or call at 580-670-0816 to sign up.
Great American Cleanup volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. June 3 at the county fairgrounds, where they will be given gloves, trash bags, vests, and supplies before going off to Blackwell's parks and road-sides. The event is scheduled to last until noon.
