United Way taking orders for kickoff breakfast this Friday

by Charles Gerian

Volunteers with the Blackwell Area United Way will host their annual kickoff breakfast Friday, and they are taking pre-orders for juice as well as sausage and egg biscuits.

The breakfast, a staple of Blackwell High School’s football season, will be served at the intersection of Main St. and Blackwell Ave. in front of BancFirst from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Volunteers can deliver food locally to those who request it.

Meals can be pre-ordered via phone at 580-363-4195 or via email at blackwellunitedway@gmail.com.

This will also be the organization’s last breakfast under its current name, according to Stacie Grossardt, the organization’s director.

“We’re changing our name, not our mission,” she said.

“In the months to come, you will be seeing a change when it comes to Blackwell United Way,” Grossardt said. “Due to the increase in yearly dues to the National United Way, as a board, we decided to leave the organization.”

Grossardt said the organization’s members feel that the money spent paying national dues could be “better spent helping our agencies more.”

The organization’s new name will be Blackwell United Outreach.

“We will continue to help support our community as we always have,” Grossardt said.
