Blackwell VFW seeks gift bags for Claremore Veteran's Center
Blackwell’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 2855, has launched a project to help hospitalized veterans.
Members of the auxiliary are making gift bags for the men and women in the Claremore Veterans Center. The gift bags will be taken to Claremore for Veterans Day in November to thank the men and women there for their service to the United States.
Auxiliary members have donated items for the gift bags. Also, the Blackwell 1st Assembly of God Church has donated some personal hygiene items, Auxiliary President Sherry Landers said.
The auxiliary is asking Blackwell residents to help with the project. The organization needs donations of: deodorant for men and women, shampoo, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, denture cream, disposable razors for men and women, white socks for men and women, word search books, writing paper, pens, hand lotion, and lip balm.
Those who can donate supplies are encouraged to bring those supplies to the VFW, 1006 W. Ferguson Ave., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Some of the gift bags will be left at the [VFW] if a veteran may be in need of one of the gift bags,” Landers said. “So many of these veterans have no family, and with COVID-19, these homes are not allowing any visitors.
“This is just a small gesture to show them they have not been forgotten. The auxiliary members would like to thank VFW Post No. 2855 for working with us and allowing us to hold the drop off day at the post. We would also like to thank the citizens of Blackwell in advance for your donations.”
