Blackwell hotels offer Homecoming deals

Blackwell High School’s annual Homecoming celebrations will begin Friday, with events happening all throughout the weekend. Blackwell has no shortage of places to stay for those coming in from out of town, as local hotels are opening their doors to welcome friends and family members back for the celebratory weekend.

At Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 827 N. 44th St., rooms are being offered for Homecoming at a rate of $99 plus tax for any size of room.

Courtney Rogers, Holiday Inn's front desk manager and head of housekeeping, said the hotel is open and ready to welcome visitors.

“We have an incredibly rich, friendly atmosphere with exceptionally clean rooms and a dedicated staff,” Rogers said. “We provide standard rooms and suites with a nice country view. Plus, our location is prime.”

Rogers said that, while the coronavirus pandemic has hindered most of the hotel’s usual amenities, the indoor heated pool is open. The gym is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We're a higher-end brand of hotel, and as such, our standards match the luxury our guests expect,” she said. “Everything is cleaned to meet COVID-19 standards. We can't offer our usual hot breakfast, but we provide delicious breakfast sandwiches that can be heated up. We're also right next door to Braum's and, of course, they serve an amazing breakfast.”

Holiday Inn offers a conference room and business center for guests as well.

“We're steadily very busy during Homecoming,” Rogers said. “We rely on feedback – positive and negative – to craft a better experience than ever for our guests. We still have rooms available and can't wait to welcome Blackwell's alumni.”

Down the street, employees at the Rodeway Inn (formerly known as the Econo Lodge), Sleep Inn, and SureStay by Best Western are anticipating large crowds as well.

Sleep Inn & Suites, 4530 W. White Ave., is offering $50 king and double-bed rooms. Guests are encouraged to call the hotel directly and ask for the Blackwell Homecoming rate. Sleep Inn offers an exercise room and WiFi. Sleep Inn can be reached via phone by calling 580-363-9909.

Rodeway Inn, 1202 N. 44th St., is offering king and double-queen rooms for $40 with the promo code “Homecoming Rate.” The hotel can be reached via phone by calling 580-363-7000. Rodeway uses the same parking lot as Los Potros, which manager Belinda Compala said is a “huge draw” for guests.

Compala, also the manager for Sleep Inn, said workers at the two hotels are anticipating a steady influx of guests.

“People stay at our hotels because they're accustomed to the standard we run our establishments at,” she said.

Rodeway and Sleep Inn are both offered by Choice Hotels, a name that carries with it an air of respect, Compala said. Sleep Inn currently has a rating of 4.7/5 stars through Choice Hotels with a 96% guest recommendation. Rodeway has a 4.5/5-star rating, with 92% of guests recommending it.

At the SureStay by Best Western, 4545 W. White Ave., king and double-queen rooms are being offered for $55 with a welcome gift upon arrival. Guests may also eat a hot breakfast.

“We're extremely popular around Homecoming because people know our staff are friendly, our rooms are clean, and our hotel is always held to the highest standard,” Assistant Manager Heather Wilson said.

Blackwell's Super 8 Motel, 1014 W. Doolin Ave., is offering rooms for $40 with the promo code “Homecoming Rate.”

Manager Mitzi Graham said she is expecting a huge Homecoming crowd, and said her hotel is the place to be for the weekend.

“We're in the heart of Blackwell,” Graham said. “We're the cleanliest place, and we're in the center of the action. We have The Stack restaurant on one side, Dragon Palace Chinese on the other, Walmart, United, and Southside Spirits across the street. ... And our staff clean our rooms thoroughly, daily, to ensure that our guests are safe as well as comfortable.”

Super 8 by Windham Hotels is rated 3.5/5 stars on Tripadvisor.

The establishment offers WiFi and complimentary access to the nearby Blackwell Fitness gym. The hotel is also pet-friendly.
