Blackwell VFW to host Halloween dance; Trunk or Treat

by Charles Gerian

Members of Blackwell's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2855 have some big plans for the Halloween weekend, and they want Blackwell residents to join in on the fun.

VFW members have planned a Halloween party for Oct. 30 and a child-focused “trunk-or-treat” for Oct. 31, Post Commander Cory Ingram said.

The VFW is currently conducting a raffle fundraiser to raise money for the organization. The first prize is a Remington .770 rifle with a scope, and the winner's choice of caliber.

“This is all part of our continued effort to be more involved in the community,” Ingram said. “We will be hosting a Halloween costume party for adults Friday, October 30, at the VFW bar on Ferguson, and the following night on Halloween, we're inviting families for a fun and safe trunk-or-treat in the Bingo hall parking lot next door.”

The Halloween costume party will be for those ages 21 and up and will begin at 6 p.m.

The party will feature a costume contest with prizes for first, second, and third places, with judging beginning at 9:30 p.m. The party will feature shooter and bucket specials.

“On Halloween night, October 31, we will be inviting families for our trunk-or-treat, which we are hosting, which will feature decorated cars and candy from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.,” Ingram said.

Along with those events, the VFW's raffle will be held Nov. 11 for a Remington rifle and two handmade, painted outdoor American flags measuring 54.5 x 76 or 19.5 x 36.

Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20 and can be purchased from the VFW bar or any member of the VFW.
