Christmas parade set for Monday, December 7
The 8th Annual Night of Lights Christmas Parade is set for next Monday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. Down Main Street, with new COVID-19 safety measures in place for the traditional meeting with Santa Claus.
The parade is being hosted by the Blackwell Area Chamber of Commerce and Blackwell Tourism, and will mark the “start of the holiday season” featuring the lighted Christmas display at the Top of Oklahoma Museum as well as the banners and garland being strung on Main Street. The line up will begin at 5:45 p.m.
At Main Street & Dewey, and those interested in entering floats and rides are asked to contact the Chamber of Commerce at 363-4195 to participate.
Currently, the Chamber of Commerce is asking that all entries be lighted and displaying an appropriate Christmas theme, and that no candy be thrown from the vehicles as a safety measure. As “Santa” will be at the end of the parade, the Chamber is also urging that no other Santas be present.
Walkers, wearing gloves and masks, will be handing out candy and treats instead of it being tossed from the vehicles. Following the parade, the Community Christmas Tree will be lit in a ceremony at the Blackwell Fairgrounds immediately after. Santa will be outside, at the tree, for socially distances photo opportunities with the children.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Santa will not be visiting with each child as in the past, a tradition which saw hundreds of children and parents eagerly waiting to see the jolly spirit of Christmas.
Blackwell United Outreach will be sponsoring a “hot beverages” trailer in-front of the Blackwell Event Center at the Fairgrounds as part of a fundraiser which all are encouraged to stop by.
