Main Street to be repaved as part of extensive ODOT project

Main Street is about to receive a face-lift thanks to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, which is overseeing a project to repave the road from Chrysler Avenue to Adobe Road beginning Monday.

The $2.5 million project is spearheaded by Ponca City paving contractor Evans & Associates and has been in the planning stages for months. The project is a full resurfacing Main Street, and it is expected to be completed in the fall.

Transportation officials wrote on the agency’s website that drivers will face intermittent lane closures as the project commences. Motorists are urged to use caution in more narrow areas of Main Street, including areas by Blackwell High School and the downtown district. The work on Main Street, also known as US Highway 177, is one of several projects that ODOT has detailed in its 8-year plan for Kay County.
