Wanda Jean Bookout of Blackwell, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 11, 2021, at her home at the age of 87 years.

Wanda Jean Bookout was born on August 19, 1933, in Wellington, Kansas, to Boone D. and Nancy Viola (Summers) Rains. She grew up in Wellington and attended Wellington Public Schools graduating from Wellington High School. Wanda married Wayne Bookout on March 19, 1953, in Wellington and they made their home there. Wanda and Wayne gave their lives to Jesus as a young couple and raised their children in church.

When Wayne became a pastor, Wanda proved to be a great pastor’s wife with her loving and kind personality. While helping Wayne in pastoral ministry, she also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Following their move to Blackwell, Wanda worked many years at Pam’s True Value Hardware Store. She loved her many church activities, china painting and sewing clothes for her grandchildren’s activities. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed giving to the public libraries. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary in Blackwell.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Bookout of Blackwell; a son, Brad Bookout and wife Linda of Sand Springs; a daughter, Brenda McGuire of Blackwell; three sisters, Joy Holdaway of Wellington, Kansas, Nelda Parker of Westminster, Colorado, and Mary Ellen Compton of Wellington, Kansas; a brother, Buford Rains of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Justin McGuire and wife Sarah Beth of Blackwell, Jamie McGuire of Tulsa, Jennifer Arrowood and husband Jim of Sand Springs, and Amy Bookout of Sand Springs; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Helen Lucille; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Holdaway, Bobby Parker and Glenn Compton.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 21st in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Kevin Bookout and Rev. Zane Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Justin McGuire, Nolan Jones, Gene Grace, Darrell Steelmon, Mark Steelmon and Jim Briggs. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jack Bookout, Frank Johns, Danny Briggs and Derl Hicks.
