Blackwell VFW brings back live music & more in December
Blackwell’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2855 is gearing up for a busy December as they plan to host up-and-coming country music singer Levi Walker for a concert on December 4 and, on December 17, are planning their first-ever Coyote Hunt.
First up, Levi Walker is an Oklahoma-based artist who currently releases his music through YouTube. Walker currently has over 2,800 followers on Instagram and over 230 Facebook Likes. His latest single, “Change the World”, debuted on Facebook earlier this month.
The concert will be held Saturday, December 4, in the VFW building on west Ferguson Ave, from 8- Midnight with no cover charge to get in.
"He's a friend of a friend," VFW Commander Cory Ingram said, "we wanted to showcase some up-and-coming talent and hopefully kick-off having live music again, once a month or once every other month."
The VFW used to regularly have live music shows and karaoke nights, something the organization is also open to bringing back.
Then, two weeks later, December 17 will see registration begin for the VFW’s first-ever coyote hunt from 6-7 p.m. at the VFW. The hunt itself will be held Saturday October 18 and Sunday December 19 with check-in being that Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
"We thought it would be something that people in this area would enjoy," said Ingram, "it will also help fund our Scholarship that we started. We're offering a $1,500 scholarship for a local senior that is dependent on a veteran."
All team members must be present at registration and check-in and must bring a valid 2021 hunting license. All contestants must adhere to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife’s laws and regulations. All animals must be called in as well, and a card system will be in place.
The cost will be $100 per team and there will be a 50% payout to the winning team. Teams must be groups of 2-4. The VFW’s Coyote Hunt will also see side pots with 100% payout of $10 per team for “big”, “ugly”, and “small” dogs.
All funds from the Coyote Hunt will go towards the Blackwell VFW.
