Sylvia Lucille Jenkins Simmons

Sylvia Lucille Jenkins Simmons was born in Blackwell, OK on January 14, 1922 and died October 21, 2021, three months shy of her 100th birthday. She lived in Shidler, South Haven, rural Ponca City, as well as Blackwell. Sylvia attended school in Blackwell plus some classes at the Ponca City Vo tech center.

Sylvia was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, Veterans of Foreign Wars and President of American Legion Auxiliary, all while working as a realtor for Weigles agency in Blackwell. She was the oldest of seven children and the only girl of Jess and Juanita Jenkins. She met the love of her life George Simmons, when they both were employed at the Atlas Glass Plant in Blackwell. George and Sylvia were married for 58 years.

Realtor of the year 1979, Conoco Board of Environmental Concerns, President of Business and Professional Women, Baptist Mission Teacher were just a few of the volunteer areas which she was involved. Sylvia loved to travel and visited states from California to Florida, all the East coast states plus Europe. She always took an empty suitcase to bring back the gifts. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Linda Williamson (John)and Loretta Corn and five grandchil-dren; Elizabeth Costello (Patrick), Michael Williamson (Susan), Leslie Jones, Trevor Ratzlaff (Stacy) Courtney Mattlock (Randy), numerous great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Juanita Jenkins, her husband George Simmons, her son, Spec 4th class Ronald Wayne Simmons and her six brothers; Chauncie, Alford, Leroy, James, Robert, and Max Jenkins. The family wishes to convey special thanks to Humanity Hospice and a dear friend Katy Lablue. No funeral is planned. A celebration of life will be held later.
