Blackwell welcomes new business "The Meat Market"
Blackwell is welcoming a new business just in time for the holidays in the form of The Meat Market, a farm-to-table store opening to the public Wednesday.
A grand opening for the store on Blackwell Avenue took place Thursday. Father-son duo Rick and Randy Buellesfeld, who own the store, welcomed several guests, including members of the Kaw Nation, the City of Blackwell, Senator Roland Pederson and State Representative John Pfeiffer.
The Meat Market on Blackwell Avenue is connected to J-Me Buellesfeld’s Crazy Rooster boutique at 103 S. Main St. The store originally opened next to Hutton Pharmacy in 2016. The store quickly outgrew the site and moved to its current location last year. It sells house décor and offers custom printing and designing for mugs, shirts, hats and other accessories.
Other specialty products are also offered. “This is a huge opportunity for us,” J-Me Buellesfeld, who is married to Randy, told the crowd at the opening ceremony last week.
“I’ve been talking about this with my husband for years, and everything just came together. None of this would be here without the support of the City of Blackwell, the community, and those who come from all over Kay County and the region to support our business, here. We can’t let this fail. This means so much for not only our family, but for the community as well.”
The Meat Market offers beef and pork, including filets, fajita meat, beef for stew, briskets, burger patties, bacon strips, snack sticks, brats and more. J-Me Buellesfeld said she hopes to have ham for sale by Easter.
Rick Buellesfeld said the store’s meat is raised with precision down to the bloodline, stating that the livestock are raised, fed and processed locally with care, cleanliness and safety.
To commemorate the event, the crowd was served some of the store’s jalapeno and pepper-jack patties. The Meat Market is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
