Blackwell Schools receive $80 thousand for technology

Students at Blackwell Elementary School and Blackwell Middle School will have new technological equipment for learning thanks to $80,000 in grant funding.

The Oklahoma Education Technology Trust awarded each school $40,000 to purchase electronic gear for the 2022-2023 school year, organization officials said Monday. The two Blackwell schools were among 18 in Oklahoma to receive funding

Schools will use the funds to purchase Apple iPads, Google Chromebooks and Microsoft Surface Tablets, officials said. They’ll also be able to buy virtual reality equipment and robotics gear.

To go along with the new equipment, teachers will receive monthly professional development training on integrating new technology into their classrooms. The K20 Center at the University of Oklahoma, a statewide educational research and development center, will conduct the training.

The Educational Technology Trust is a function of the Oklahoma Communities Foundation, a statewide non-profit that assists charitable organizations.

“Through the events of the past few years, we have seen our world become more reliant upon technology and the vital role it plays in our education system,” said Teresa Rose, executive director of the Oklahoma Communities Foundation.

“OETT is proud to be in the business of helping schools bridge the gap between their students and the necessary technology skills they need for their future.”
