Blackwell's clean-up day was the biggest yet
The City of Blackwell’s annual Trash-Off Day took place Saturday morning and, despite the dark clouds and cold winds, amassed a record turn-out of community members and Blackwell Public Schools students.
Local bank employees, cheer leaders, middle and high school students, community groups and city employees received trash bags and gloves and picked up trash at the county fairgrounds. They also picked up debris along Main Street and other roads, and they cleaned up parks throughout the city,
including Legion and Memorial.
City Manager Jerry Wieland said: “Saturday was an amazing turnout for the Great American Cleanup. The City of Blackwell would like to thank all who participated and donated their time on Saturday morning to help clean up our community. Special thanks to all the high school students in attendance as well.”
The annual clean-up is a part of the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful program’s Great American Cleanup. It is sponsored by the Oklahoma Shirt Company, OG&E, Pepsi, Oklahoma Beverage Association, Lowe’s, the Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Warren CAT, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Environmental Quality Organization.
