Library hosting community resource fair May 11

The Blackwell Public Library will host its first-ever Community Resources Fair on May 11 at the Blackwell Event Center to provide information about various charitable and health-related programs and organizations in the area.

The fair will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. It will provide information about and registration for the Wheatheart Nutrition Project, Long Term Care Authority of Enid, Grand Lake Mental Health, the Associated Charities and the Blackwell House of Prayer.

“There are so many resources in Blackwell and the surrounding areas that can benefit members of our community,” said Talyn Spence, the library’s director of operations. “This fair is a way for us to spread awareness on these programs to help those that might be in need, know people in need or people that could find themselves in need. They’re all great programs, and we just want to help the community as much as possible.”

Registration for the fair is now open at the library, 123 W. Padon Ave. Spence said this is just a courtesy, however, and registration is not mandatory for attending the fair.

“We would like for people that know they’re coming to register just so that we have a headcount and so that these organizations can bring enough material to give out,” Spence said.

The Wheatheart Nutrition Project is a non-profit organization that provides home-delivered meals to seniors in an eight-county area. The LTCA of Enid Area Agency on Aging provides housing options, veterans assistance and aide with dentures, eyeglasses and hearing aids to residents of Alfalfa, Blaine, Garfield, Grant, Kay, Kingfisher, Major and Noble counties.

It also provides nutrition, transportation and health promotion services. Grand Lake Mental Health provides effective, trauma-informed services for mental health in northeastern and north-central Oklahoma.

The Associated Charities & Deer Creek Food Pantry provides food and goods to those in need in the area.

The Blackwell House of Prayer Food Bank also provides goods, food and other resources to those in need.
