Brewer named Blackwell's Interim Police Chief

by Jordan Green

For the second time this year, Blackwell has a new police chief.

Capt. Jay Brewer is now the City of Blackwell’s interim police chief. He was named to the position May 16 after Cory Ingram, who had served as chief since March, made a “voluntary decision” to return to his lieutenant rank, city officials said in a social media post.

Ingram was named interim chief in March following the retirement of Dewayne Wood, who has been with the police department for 25 years.

City Manager Jerry Wieland named Brewer as interim chief May 16, officials said. Brewer has been with the department for 22 years and was serving as patrol commander when he was named interim chief.

Little information about the change in leadership was made available. Calls to Ingram were not returned Monday, and Wieland was said to be out of the office.
