Blackwell Middle School converting to LED lighting

The Blackwell Board of Education held a special meeting to start out the month of June, receiving the first bond for new Blackwell High School from The Baker Group out of Oklahoma City for $1.5 million dollars.

The BOE also accepted a bid in the $40 thousand dollar range from Stacy Electric to convert the Blackwell Middle School to LED lighting.

Last year the Blackwell Elementary School was fully converted to LED as a cost-saving measure which saved the district thousands of dollars in kilowatt usage.

Superintendent Shawn Haskins also stated that the LED lighting had no issues at BES throughout the year, meaning less time and manpower spent dealing with electrical problems.

Blackwell Middle School’s full conversion to LED lighting should not come as a shock either, given the City of Blackwell’s own push to LED lighting city-wide going into 2024.

The BMS conversion will be done over the summer and will be completed before the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
