Jeanette "Sue" Garwood

Sue preferred to go by her middle name. She was born September 12, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. She died at her home in Blackwell June 1, 2023. As a child she lived in Arizona, New Mexico, and St Joseph, Missouri. She graduated from high school in St. Joseph. She met her husband, Kenneth Lee Garwood in St Joseph. They were married August 4, 1972 at her grandmother’s home in St. Joseph. She and her husband celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 4, 2022. During the 20 years her husband was in the Air Force, she lived in California, Texas, Thailand, Taiwan, Okinawa, Korea, Nebraska, and Maryland. In 1996 her family moved to Blackwell. Sue was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was very important to her. She served in various capacities as a teacher and leader of children, youth, and adults. She regularly worshipped in her church’s temples. She spent many hours visiting and serving others. She loved spending time with her son and his family. She regularly attended her granddaughters’ dance recitals. Sue also served in the community. She worked part-time for United Way. She delivered Meals on Wheels, helped at Associated Charities, and helped at the museum. She most recently was serving as secretary for the museum board until health problems caused her to resign. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Lee Garwood, a son Daniel Garwood, a brother Tom Hite, 3 nieces, 3 nephews, and 4 granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her mother and a sister. A memorial service will be held Saturday June 24th at 2 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 13th and Coolidge. Following the service there will be a graveside service at the Blackwell cemetery. After the graveside there will be a meal at the church
