Donna Wright

July 12, 2023

Donna Wright, 94, of Blackwell, passed away Tuesday, July 4, at her assisted living residence in Mustang, OK. Donna was born March 3, 1929, in Blackwell, the oldest child of Merle and Mabel Compton. At age 17 she married her first love, Jimmy Harris. Together they had three children, Michael, Trudy, and Susan. Jimmy was a wonderful husband and father and died very unexpectedly in 1959. Donna worked hard to provide for her family. In 1966 tragedy struck again as her oldest child Michael, was killed in a car accident. She married Dale Wright in 1966 and also added his Allen and Rhonda to the family.

Donna was a devout Christian, committed church-member, moped rider, Gaither music fan, chihuahua tolerater, front-porch sitter, and speak-in-tongues-while-cooking chef. She was a champion for her grandchildren and went to great lengths to create adventures for them. Once while watching a parade, she asked a person with a horse if her grandson could ride on it, and they said "Yes." Once while walking by the co-op, she asked a train engineer if her grandkids could have a ride on the train. He said, "Yes, but you have to meet me out of town at this intersection." On more than one occasion she bought her grandkids clothes at the old Anthony's and made them swear not to tell their grandfather. She walked with them to Harvey's to buy candy cigarettes. She took them to church as often as they visited. She prayed for every family member every day. She made their favorite foods when they visited. She gave kisses that were a bit too slobbery.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Trudy Marshall, of Pflugerville, TX, daughter Susan Harris of Blackwell, stepson Allen Wright of Luther, sisters Carmen Murray of Kansas and Patricia Worth of Colorado. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmy Harris, son Michael Harris, second husband Dale Wright, grandson Dirk Busby, and her brother Ronald Compton.

A graveside service will be held at the Blackwell Cemetery on August 5 at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial gifts can be given in her honor to Libraries of Love.
