Mary Christine "Chris" Wideman

Mary Christine “Chris” Wideman, age 83, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Chris was born on July 28, 1940 in Asher, Arkansas and was one of eight children born to parents, Ordith Wideman and Lucy Davenport Wideman. At the age of two, her family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she was raised and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1958. She excelled in secretarial courses and began working in a law office. She also worked in the Kay County Courthouse as a secretary for the District Attorney before moving to Norman in 1972. She became the first Certified Legal Secretary in the state of Oklahoma and moved to Oklahoma City to work for Kerr-McGee Corporation. Chris remained in the legal department for many years, until her retirement, and continued secretarial work from her home for various attorneys in the area.
She loved living in Oklahoma City and enjoyed spending time with friends and co-workers. She was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and was often honored by a friendly exchange of “Boomer Sooner.” She moved to Texas in 2022 to be closer to family as her health continued to decline.
She is survived her five sisters, Ethel Kelly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Virginia Frost of Elkins, Arkansas, Carol Mason of Haysville, Kansas, Judy Meritt of Lubbock, Texas, and Betty McNett and husband, Eddie, of Lubbock, Texas; sister-in-law, Pat Wideman of Garland, Texas; and a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ordith and Lucy Wideman, sister, Vickie Lynn Wideman, brother, Charles Wideman, and a special Aunt and her namesake, Granny Tennie.
