Blackwell organizations planning massive Christmas celebration December 4
Details for Blackwell’s annual Christmas Parade set for December 4 have finally been revealed by the City of Blackwell, Blackwell Tourism, and Blackwell Area Chamber of Commerce.
Long-known as the “Night of Lights” parade, the Blackwell Christmas Parade has now expanded into a Christmas extravaganza, according to the Chamber of Commerce.
The parade line-up will begin at the Co-Op at 5:45 p.m. on December 4 with the parade beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Following the parade, the Blackwell High School’s Band and Vocal groups will perform at 7 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. respectively at the Fairgrounds.
The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place following those performances at around 7:10 p.m. at the Fairgrounds, where children will be able to visit Santa beginning at 7:15.
Those interested in registering for the parade can either email the Chamber at info@blackwellchamber.org or by calling 580-363-4195.
Blackwell’s children will be directly involved with the Blackwell Christmas Event’s “Country Christmas” village that will be displayed in the historic 4-H Building at the Fairgrounds where children will be able to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus following the December 4 Parade.
At the Christmas event there will be make and take ornaments, some games in a holiday atmosphere while they enjoy cookies, hot chocolate and cider.
The celebration will be held in the 4-H immediately following the lighting of the tree, band and chorus performances.
Blackwell Elementary students are preparing art work this week that will be on display at the event. By grade, their creations will be judged and prizes will be awarded. They must be present to win. Some Blackwell High School students in Bart Cox's Industrial Arts class have constructed a back drop that will set the Country Christmas theme.
This is a community event sponsored by the Blackwell Chamber, Blackwell Tourism, the Blackwell Schools, Blackwell Economic Development Authority, Kay Electric, the City of Blackwell, and Blackwell United Outreach as well as Starr Lumber and Blackwell Dentistry with a special thanks to the Beatty Foundation.
The Blackwell Christmas Parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.
Children in Blackwell will also have the Children’s Christmas Store to look forward to as well, also in 4-H building, on December 9 from 9 a.m. until noon.
