Maroon wrestling steamrolls into 2024
The Blackwell Maroon Wrestlers continued their quest for another state championship, by opening 2024 on the road with a dual match in Perry.
Blackwell beat the rival Maroons like a rented mule, 54-6. The Blackwell Maroons then traveled to Payne County for the Cushing tournament on January 5th and 6th.
The Maroons finished 2nd to Class 3A Sulphur by a score 206-182. Maroon Grapplers placing were Jason Osgood- 1st, Grant Rowe- 1st, Jaxon Brown- 2nd, Louden Wolfe- 2nd, Madden Edgar- 4th, Lawson Lusk- 4th , Laker Ingram- 4th, Payton Head- 6th. On January 11th, the Maroons traveled to Guthrie for a dual against the Class 5A Blue jays.
The Maroons again put on a championship performance, embarrassing the bigger-classed Blue Jays 55-13. The Maroons followed this up with a short trip to Tonkawa for an in-county dual against the Buccaneers on January 16th.
The Maroons made the Buccaneers walk the plank, winning the match 72-3.
On January 18th, the Maroons hosted District Duals at Charles Hetrick Field House.
The Maroons throttled all of the competition, holding all of their opponents scoreless. The
Maroons defeated Dewar 84-0, Barnsdall 77-0, Tulsa Webster 78-0, and Newkirk 84-0. The Maroons hosted a home dual against the Edmond-Deer Creek Antlers on January 26th.
The Maroons beat the higher-classed Antlers 45-22. The Maroons traveled to Ponca City for the Big 4+4 tournament on January 27th and 28th.
The Maroons finished 3rd overall with 137.5 points, trailing Class 6A Bixby with 241.5 points and Class 5A Elgin with 140 points. Maroons placing in the tournament were Jaxon Brown 1st, Louden Wolfe 1st, Kruz Goff 1st, Jason Osgood 2nd, Lawson Lusk 2nd, Grant Rowe 2nd, Payton Head 4th, Lane Looper 5th, and Caden Jurgens 6th.
Junior Kruzz Goff picked up his 100th career win at the tournament.
The Maroons hosted the Cleveland Tigers for Senior Night and their last home dual of the year on January 29th. The Maroons dominated the Tigers 66-12.
The Maroons will travel to the Stride Bank Center in Enid on February 10th for the 2024 Dual State tournament, where they hope to repeat as State Champions.
