Just a little over a week after our country celebrated our nations Independence Day, July 4 th we witnessed an attempted assassination on former president Donald J. Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh. While watching numerous videos and reading articles from a variety of sources, we see resilience and bravery that strengthens our resolve.

Our nations character is historical as well as this time, a time when our nation should be celebrating the freedoms and liberties that define us, we find ourselves instead confronted with a chilling reminder of the fragility of our democracy. The recent attempted assassination of President Donald Trump has sent shockwaves throughout the country. In these trying times, it is imperative that we come together as a nation, setting aside our differences, and seeking solace and strength in unity and prayer.

Regardless of our choice for President, the most powerful person in the free world, we should condemn this type of political violence – in any form. The gravity of an attempt on the life of a past or sitting President cannot be overstated. It is an affront not just to the individual, but to the office itself and the democratic principles it embodies.

Regardless of political affiliation, the safety and security of our leaders are paramount to maintaining the stability and integrity of our nation. The attack on President Trump is an attack on all of us and our system that allows for peaceful transitions of power and the rule of law.

Now, more than ever, we must rise above the vitriol and division that have become all too common in our political discourse. The fabric of our society is woven from threads of diverse beliefs and opinions, yet it is the common values of respect, and civility that hold us together.

We must reject hatred and violence, reaffirming our commitment to dialogue and democratic processes. Let us choose ballots over bullets, ensuring everyone's voice is heard through our votes.

In the face of this unsettling event, we call upon all Americans to turn to prayer as a source of comfort and guidance. Prayer has always been a cornerstone in times of crisis, offering a sense of peace and a reminder of the higher purpose that binds us. Let us pray for President Trump’s swift recovery, for the wisdom of our leaders, and for the strength of our nation and the victims, their families and those who witnessed this horrific event.

May our prayers be a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to healing and reconciliation. As a Christian, I firmly believe that God's divine protection was with President Trump during this harrowing ordeal.

It is by His grace that the President survived this attack, and I am reminded of the power of faith and prayer in moments of danger and uncertainty. This incident serves as a testament to the belief that a higher power watches over us, guiding and protecting us through life's most difficult challenges.

Our country was less than an inch away from an ignited firestorm of violence and unrest, threatening the very framework of our democracy. The bullet missing President Trump by mere centimeters was a narrow escape, highlighting the uncertain balance upon which our nation rests. It is a sobering reminder of the stakes involved and the need for vigilance and unity to prevent such a disaster.

We must all work together to ensure that such a nightmare scenario never comes to pass. This requires a collective effort to de-escalate tensions and strengthen the bonds that hold us together. By fostering a culture of empathy and cooperation, we can navigate these turbulent times and safeguard the peace and stability of our nation. It is only through unity and a shared commitment to our democratic values that we can prevent the forces of division from tearing us apart.

It is also a time to reflect on the role each of us plays in the broader narrative of our country. Our words and actions carry weight, influencing the tone and direction of our collective journey. Let us choose words that heal, not harm; actions that build, not destroy. By fostering a culture of kindness and understanding, we can create a more harmonious and prosperous society for all.

This moment calls for a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to the principles that have long defined America: liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. It is a time to stand united, to demonstrate that, despite our differences, we are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Together, we can overcome this dark chapter and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more united than ever before.

In closing, let us remember the words of President Abraham Lincoln, who led our nation through its most trying times: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Let us take these words to heart, striving to build bridges rather than walls, to understand rather than condemn, and to unite rather than divide. Through unity and prayer, we can navigate the challenges before us and continue the work of building a more perfect union.
