Calling for Unity and Prayer After the Attempted Assassination of former President Trump

Just a little over a week after our country celebrated our nations Independence Day, July 4 th we witnessed an attempted assassination on former president Donald J. Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh. While watching numerous videos and reading articles from a variety of sources, we see resilience and bravery that strengthens our resolve.

Our nations character is historical as well as this time, a time when our nation should be celebrating the freedoms and liberties that define us, we find ourselves instead confronted with a chilling reminder of the fragility of our democracy. The recent attempted assassination of President Donald Trump has sent shockwaves throughout the country. In these trying times, it is imperative that we come together as a nation, setting aside our differences, and seeking solace and strength in unity and prayer.

Regardless of our choice for President, the most powerful person in the free world, we should condemn this type of political violence – in any form. The gravity of an attempt on the life of a past or sitting President cannot be overstated. It is an affront not just to the individual, but to the office itself and the democratic principles it embodies.

Regardless of political affiliation, the safety and security of our leaders are paramount to maintaining the stability and integrity of our nation. The attack on President Trump is an attack on all of us and our system that allows for peaceful transitions of power and the rule of law.

Now, more than ever, we must rise above the vitriol and division that have become all too common in our political discourse. The fabric of our society is woven from threads of diverse beliefs and opinions, yet it is the common values of respect, and civility that hold us together.
