New restaurant Lila's Place aims to make customers feel at home

Limbaugh’s restaurant on Doolin is now Lila’s Place, and with a new owner, new management, and new menu comes a new life for the location which, until just a few short years ago, was one of Blackwell’s most recognizable eateries. 
Lila Julian, the restaurant’s new owner and manager, is aiming to make Lila’s Place a central part of the Blackwell community. 

Lila’s Place on 1018 west Doolin is set to open this month and the business is currently seeking servers, bartenders, cooks, dishwashers, and kitchen help. Information can be found on their Facebook page. 

The restaurant’s current set hours will be 7 am - 9 pm Tuesday through  Friday; 8 am-9 pm Saturday; 8 am - 2 pm on Sundays. Closed on Monday. 
The bar is set to open at a later date, and the restaurant will have daily specials that will be advertised on Facebook and at their website. Lila’s Place will offer discounts to military, senior citizens, and first responders. 

“In simple terms,” Julian said, “I want to focus more on the community involvement of the restaurant. I want people to come here like a second home.” 

“If someone doesn’t want to cook at home, I want them to come here. Not everything is homemade but it’s all home-style. We’ve been listening to the wants of the community. We’re going to have a salad bar that everyone has been asking about- soup and salad, year-round.” 

“We will have the bar still,” Julian said, “it’ll be like a Chili’s or Applebee's situation. You can go in and go to the bar or have a drink at your table. The bar will probably be more active after 9 pm at night.” 

“We will have karaoke, senior night, kid’s night, nurse’s week, youth center week, a lot of fun themes to get the community in there, to appreciate the community. We will do donations for various groups and activities,” Julian explained. 

These themed nights and specials will be advertised on the Facebook page for the restaurant, “Lila’s Place”. 

“I want to keep the restaurant affordable for everyone in Blackwell. Think of it as a hometown, friendly place. Like The Stack, Corner Cafe, Mary’s Grill. Homey. Hometown. That’s the goal, here.” 

Lila’s Place will be serving a full breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner. Some items are
Omelettes, French toast, Biscuits and Gravy, Scramblers , Burgers, Chicken Fried Steak, Ruben Sandwich, Philly Steak Sandwich, Pork Chops, Club Sandwich, and Soup and Salad Bar. 

“My family has been in the restaurant business all of our life in Ohio and Oklahoma,” Julian explained. 

“We wanted to have our own Family business to fit the needs of the community and have a good home-cooked style menu that offers affordable prices for the community and surrounding communities. So when the opportunity came up to take over this location we really jumped at that,” she continued. 

“As a restaurant owner, you need to have your finger on the pulse of what type of food and cuisine Blackwell wants and needs,” Julian explained. 

She continued: 

“You know your customers raise a family so you need to hire and train people that work in the food, service industry, and this is our opportunity to have our own place and spot. Something that’s not just for us, though. For everyone.” 

“You want to have a person that knows Blackwell, that loves Blackwell, and can deliver on what Blackwell’s expectations for a restaurant are. That’s what we want to do here with Lila’s Place.” 

Lila cited The Stack as a prime example of how to keep a business active in the community. 

“You look at what Moe did for years, almost 30 years in this exact spot. There was a reason he had so much success. He listened to citizens. He heard their opinions. He kept the restaurant affordable for families, for the working class. We want people to visit Blackwell and to see this restaurant as a part of the community, something that builds on the legacy of the amazing businesses Blackwell has helped thrive.” 

The key to the restaurant is community.

“You want to be a proud partner with the citizens. People work hard for their money, they value their money, and you want to deliver not just a good product, but a good product for a good price.”
