James Franklin Johns of Blackwell Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28th at the age of 76 years old. He was known to his friends and family as Frank.
James Franklin Johns was born on October 21st, 1947 in Blackwell Oklahoma to Frank Donald and Beulah Mae (Jeffries) Johns. He grew up north of Blackwell and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served 3 tours in Vietnam. During those tours, he was stationed in San Diego, California. There, he met the love of his life Marsha Robinson, and they were married in San Diego on April 11, 1969. They welcomed their first daughter, Sharon, in 1970. They resided north of Los Angeles until they moved back to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1972. In 1975, Frank moved his family to a farm near Peckham where they welcomed their second daughter, Cindy. They welcomed their 3rd daughter, Suzanne in 1979. Frank farmed and ran cattle with his Dad and brothers during the 70’s and 80’s while working full time at the Conoco refinery. He retired from Conoco in 2006 after 34 years of employment. Frank loved raising horses, going to rodeos and horse shows, and watching his girls play sports. In retirement, Frank enjoyed golf, camping and fishing with his wife, family and friends, although his true passion was watching his 5 grandkids participate in all of their activities. He was a truly devoted Dad & Papa, never missing a game, tournament, recital or event.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha; three daughters, Sharon Johns, Cindy Biddle and husband Brian, Suzanne Howard and husband Adam; five grandchildren, Courtney Pruett and husband Myles, Tanner Cline, Tate Cline, Octavian Howard, Xavier Howard, and their significant others; he also had the privilege of having 3 bonus grandchildren, Callie Biddle, Brianne Gordon and husband Christian, and Trevin Biddle; three great grandchildren, Carsyn, Addison, and Rhett; He is also survived by one sister, Deanna Sheets and her husband Jim, and six brothers, Daryl, Lonnie, Steve, Les, Donnie and his wife Lea Ann, and Curtis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 5th at Roberts and Son Funeral Home in Blackwell anytime from 5-7pm. Services are scheduled for 10am, Friday, September 6th at the Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell with Kevin Bookout officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell cemetery.
