Fatal house fire under investigation in Blackwell

Several agencies responded to a house fire on Main Street and Kansas on Wednesday September 18 in Blackwell which is still under investigation.

Just after 11 am, Blackwell Fire Department, Police Department, and the Blackwell Public Power Electric Department responded to a fire at 523 North Main Street.

There was one fatality reported and the fire is still under investigation by the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The structure was reported as a total loss.

Kildare, Tonkawa, Kay County Sheriff’s Office, and the DA Task Force responded to the scene.

The following statement is from the Blackwell Police Department:

09/18/2024 at 11:06 AM, the Blackwell Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 523 N. Main St., Blackwell. During the operation, firefighters discovered a deceased male within the premises.

Investigators from the Blackwell Police Department, the Oklahoma Fire Marshall's Office, and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office were called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The cause of death is currently under investigation, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification by the Medical Examiner's Office.

This investigation remains active, and further information will be made available as the investigation progresses.
