Deer Creek alumni hold emotional reunion
November 01, 2024
On October 19th the Deer Creek High School Alumni held a reunion at Kay Electric in Blackwell, OK. The morning began with fellowship, donuts and coffee.
Our reunion covers up to 1973 when it consolidated with Lamont and became DCLA. Sixty Nine Deer Creek graduates, family and friends were in attendance.
There were lots of memorabilia to look at and lots of memories and laughs to share with everyone and many pictures taken. The meeting came to order with Ponca City Scout Troop 556 presenting the flag, flag salute and prayer. They then served a delicious set down meal prepared by Cobb’s Restaurant of Ponca City.
After the meal the meeting continued with President Homer Nicholson recognizing the oldest and who came the farthest.
Our oldest student was Velma Williamson Paige at 95 and then Leatice Lockhart Smith at 92 years young. Some in their late 80’s followed close behind.
Graduate DeeAnn Squires Muster and her husband Mike traveled the farthest coming from Calhoun, KY.
The classmates that had passed away since our last reunion were recognized.
In our business meeting we discussed the scholarship we give to a Senior in the DCLA high school for two semesters after they graduate.
Officers for our reunion and choosing to do another year are President, Homer Nicholson, Vice President Joy Reese Whetstone, Secretary, Linda Womack Lively, Treasurer, Randy Hoemann, and Special Committee Member Loren Valentine.
Our next Deer Creek High School Reunion will be held October 18, 2025.
A healthy Kay County requires great community news.
