When Alva’s computer repair shop shut down, Luke Wilson saw an opportunity to bring his expertise back to the community. With years of experience diagnosing and repairing computers, he decided to take the leap and open his own business right in the heart of Blackwell:
Blackwell Computer Repair.

“I’ve always had an interest in computers, but it wasn’t until I worked at a repair company that I realized I wanted to focus on this field,” Wilson said.
“When that company closed, I knew Blackwell still needed reliable computer repair services, so I decided to start my own business.”

With a degree in Computer Science and hands-on experience at SPI, where he quickly advanced to lead in-house technician, Wilson brings a wealth of knowledge to his new venture. At SPI, he not only diagnosed and repaired computers but also trained other technicians, sharpening his skills as both a specialist and a mentor.
What sets his business apart from other repair shops? “Fast turnaround times and direct communication,” Wilson explained. “Customers get to sit down with the technician who actually worked on their computer and ask any questions they may have.”
Beyond basic computer repairs, the business offers new PC setups, data transfers, and data recovery. He also provides basic diagnostics and repairs for other devices, including printers and cell phones. Though the business is still in its early days, he has aspirations to expand into hardware services for mobile devices.
Reaching customers has been the biggest challenge so far. “I made the decision to start this business in the final week of my previous job, so it’s been a mad dash to get everything set up in just two months,” admitted Wilson. However, he’s determined to build his reputation as a trusted resource for Blackwell’s residents and businesses.
One of the most common issues he sees? Slow computers.
“It’s usually caused by aging hardware or software settings that need adjusting,” Wilson said. His advice to those wanting to avoid sudden failures is to start considering a replacement after five to seven years, as computers have a typical lifespan within that range.

Customer service is at the heart of Blackwell Computer Repair’s business model.
Whether he’s answering client questions, troubleshooting issues, or acting as an advocate with hardware and software manufacturers, Wilson prioritizes clear communication and helpful support. Staying up to date on the latest advancements is another key focus.
He regularly researches new technology, keeps tabs on security vulnerabilities, and collaborates with others in the industry.

While he hasn’t yet worked on cryptocurrency mining rigs, Wilson does offer services for gaming PCs and is exploring the potential of servicing drones. He plans to stay engaged with the local community by being a reliable source of tech support and information.
For those looking to save money, Wilson occasionally runs service discounts posted on Facebook. And while he has only had a handful of clients so far, he’s been encouraged by their enthusiasm.
“Everyone has been so kind and excited that there’s a local computer repair option.”

What’s the most rewarding part of his work? Wilson says, “Seeing a client’s relief and joy when they realize their computer issue has a solution, and they haven’t lost all their information.”
