Blackwell Flycatchers Gear Up for 2025 Season, Seeking Host Families and Support

February 20, 2025

The Blackwell Flycatchers are set to return for their third season this summer, and preparations are already underway. The team’s Booster Club is currently accepting donations and applications for host families to support players during their 2025 stay in Blackwell.
On Sunday, February 16, fans braved the cold to attend the pre-season meeting at the newly renovated Top of Oklahoma Museum Club Room. Despite the chilly temperatures, around 20 supporters gathered to learn how they could help welcome the team back to Morgan Field for another exciting summer of baseball.
During the meeting, General Manager Cindy Hobaugh read a letter from the Flycatchers’ new manager, Mik Ebisu, who is eager to lead the team this season.
“This community is what makes this team great and thrive,” Hobaugh read on Ebisu’s behalf. “Thank you so much for letting me join you all this season.”
Ebisu, a Houston resident originally from Japan, is currently studying Sports Administration and Nutrition at the University of Houston.
“I’ve spoken with Mik several times, and he’s visited Blackwell over the last year,” said Hobaugh. “He loves this community and, above all else, wants to strengthen the Flycatchers' involvement with our high school baseball team. He’s someone who truly cares, and I think he will do wonders for our Flycatchers.”
Attendees discussed various fundraising opportunities for the upcoming season, including a potential picnic event, the youth baseball camp, and ways to donate snacks and beverages for the team’s road games.
Hobaugh also emphasized the need for host families, a crucial part of a successful Flycatchers season.
Hosting a Flycatcher offers families a unique opportunity to connect with a young athlete and gain insight into the life of a rising baseball player. Many past host families have built lasting friendships with their players and have enjoyed following their careers beyond Blackwell.
Host families are asked to provide:
A private room for the player.
Access to a washer and dryer, if possible.
Access to a bathroom and kitchen.
A safe and comfortable home environment.
Support and encouragement by attending games when possible.
As a thank-you, the Flycatchers provide host families with a special appreciation package in recognition of their generosity.
The Flycatchers’ season officially begins in May, with the team’s first home game on Wednesday, May 28, at Morgan Field against the Kansas City Hormigas, the Pecos League’s newest franchise.
The team is also looking for local announcers for home games, providing a great opportunity for community members to get involved in game-day experiences.
The 2024 season marked the Flycatchers’ biggest year yet for community involvement, with themed nights honoring teachers, little league teams, churches, and first responders.
Several local groups supported the team last year, including Blackwell Tourism, which hosted a fundraiser, and Rock & Brews Casino in Braman, among many others.
Those interested in supporting the 2025 season can purchase sponsorship packages through the Pecos League, helping cover the costs of umpires, staff, and housing. Direct donations can also be made to the Flycatchers Booster Club, which sponsors players directly.
With another exciting season on the horizon, the Flycatchers are eager to hit the field, and the community’s support will be key to making 2025 their best season yet.
