Seminar Aims to Help Families Access Disability Services, Support Resources
Kay Electric Co-Op to Host Informational Event June 19
Kay Electric, World Harvest Church, and Sooner SUCCESS are partnering to host an informative seminar designed to assist families in navigating applications for Developmental Disability Services (DDS), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), respite care, and additional critical resources.
The event will take place Thursday, June 19, at the Kay Electric Cooperative building, located at 300 West Doolin Avenue in Blackwell. A free meal, provided by World Harvest Church, will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the presentation beginning at 6 p.m
Topics will include how families can access services such as incontinence supplies, supplemental nutrition programs, and various forms of support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Organizers hope to empower caregivers and self-advocates with tools and knowledge to access the resources they need.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by June 16. Contact Ginger Newland at (715) 642-4459, Jamie Buxton at (580) 789-0701, or Jana Epperly at (580) 761-7602 to sign up.
The seminar is part of a broader initiative led by the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council in collaboration with Sooner SUCCESS. The goal is to increase respite opportunities and enhance access to support for caregivers, including parents, guardians, and others responsible for the care of individuals with I/DD—regardless of their current status in receiving state services.
This initiative supports the Council’s five-year State Plan, specifically Goal 2, Objective 2: ensuring Oklahomans with developmental disabilities and their families have access to the tools and supports necessary to live full and meaningful lives.
For additional information about the program or this collaboration, contact Sooner SUCCESS at (405) 271-2710 or email sooner-success@ouhsc.edu.
A healthy Kay County requires great community news.
