Walmart Store 136 to Celebrate 50 Years in Blackwell with Community Event

Walmart Store 136 will mark a major milestone this month as it celebrates 50 years of serving the Blackwell community with a special anniversary event open to the public.

The celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Blackwell Walmart location. The event commemorates the store’s history, which dates back to 1976, and highlights its continued presence in the community through 2026.

As part of the festivities, Walmart will offer free food to customers throughout the event, including hot dogs, chips, drinks and cupcakes. Organizers say the celebration is intended as a way to thank the community for its support over the past five decades.

The event will also provide an opportunity for residents to reflect on how the store has evolved over the years. Promotional materials for the celebration feature a comparison of the original store from the 1970s alongside the modern-day location, illustrating the changes in both the store and the retail landscape.
