Blackwell Library Summer Reading Program to launch with May 29 party

May 07, 2026

The Blackwell Public Library is inviting the community to dig into a summer of reading, creativity and family fun as it launches its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story,” later this month.
The program will officially begin with a kickoff party on Thursday, May 29, at the library, located at 123 W. Padon Ave. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all ages.
Activities will include a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a magic show at 1 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Funky Monkey, offering interactive fun for children and families as the library celebrates the start of its summer programming.
Library staff say the Summer Reading Program is designed to encourage readers of all ages to stay engaged with books during the summer months while also providing a variety of hands-on activities and events.
Leading up to the kickoff, the library has scheduled a number of programs throughout May to build excitement. Weekly Toddler Time sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., and Friday afternoon movies are scheduled at 2 p.m.
Additional themed activities include a “Make a Kite” program on May 19, a pinwheel craft on May 21, and paper airplane making on May 26. A special Mother’s Day craft event is also planned earlier in the month. The library will be closed May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
The Summer Reading Program will continue beyond the kickoff party, offering ongoing opportunities for children, teens and adults to participate in reading challenges and attend events centered around the “Unearth a Story” theme.
Community members are encouraged to attend the kickoff event and take part in the full schedule of summer activities.
