City of Blackwell hosting "Public Power Day" this afternoon; spay and neutering clinic this week

The City of Blackwell will host Blackwell Public Power Customer Appreciation Day on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Event Center on south Main Street at the county fairgrounds.

The annual event, hosted as a way for the electrical department to give back to its customers, will feature a grab-and-go dinner of free chili dogs and hot dogs.

Workers will hand out bags containing flashlights, color pages, cups and light bulbs as long as they are available.

The fairgrounds also will be the site of a city-sponsored spay and neuter clinic Thursday and Friday in conjunction with the Blackwell Animal Shelter, Northern Oklahoma Humane Society, Banfield Foundation and the Ponca Tribe. The free clinic will offer vaccines included with the surgery.

Animals must weigh at least 2 lbs. or be at least two months old for the service. Registration and dropoff for the clinic will begin both days at 7:30 a.m. andcontinue until 10 a.m. Cats must be in carriers or traps with a usabledoor, and only one cat is allowed per carrier. Cats whoare nursing kittens must beidentified to staff.
