Blackwell Library's summer program kicks off Friday with huge enrollment party
The Blackwell Public Library will host a registration and kick-off party Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the annual summer reading program.
The “Foam-tastic” Summer Reading Kickoff party will be hosted by Funky Monkey Foam, which prides itself as being the provider for “Oklahoma’s premier foam parties.”
Foam parties are, as the name implies, a place where kids wear their bathing suits and go wild in a sea of environmentally safe and hypoallergenic foam. A DJ plays music, and kids dance and have fun.
Chips, hotdogs and drinks will be served.
Head Librarian Tina Cavin and Director of Operations Talyn Spence said they agree the summer reading program will be fantastic.
“Our program will run from June 5 to July 21 and will have game days, crafts, STEM days and a movie day on Fridays, with a break day on Wednesdays,” Cavin said.
Last summer, about 120 children participated in the program.
“Our programs are all educational, but most importantly, they are fun for everyone involved,” Spence said.
In other news, the library will operate a meal program through the summer. No sign-up or registration is necessary for the meal program, but meals will not be given on a grab-and-go basis as they were in previous years. They will need to be eaten on-site.
Also included in the library’s summer plan is a reading program where readers will get scratch-off tickets for prizes for engaging in book reviews and other planned activities.
