The Sweet Spot to hold Chili Cook-Off September 9 to benefit local businesses

by Charles Gerian

Blackwell’s Sweet Spot Bakery will be hosting a Chili Cook Off next Saturday, September 9 at their location on west Doolin Avenue as a way to donate funds to a local business.

The Cook Off will begin at 10:30 a.m. with set up. From Noon to 4 the entries will be sampled. The winner and donation recipient will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Sign-ups are held at the Sweet Spot at 4408 west Doolin.

The cost to enter will be $20.

The winner of the chili cookoff will receive a $100 cash, a gift card to local restaurants, and a trophy…as well as “bragging rights” for the best chili in town, according to Sweet Spot owner Amee Sweeten.

“The money will be going to a small business to help support local industry. The competition itself will be judged off of community votes, and we will have three judges that we have randomly selected from around town,” said Sweeten.

The Sweet Spot opened over the summer and has been a large success for Sweeten, who has made community support and involvement a staple in the restaurant’s business and reputation.

Recently, the Sweet Spot raised money for local teachers as part of a Back to School initiative.
