Meet your 2024 Maroon Spirit, Miss BHS, and their runners-up.

This year’s Maroon Spirit, Carter Barriger,  and Ms. BHS, Matison McConnell, were named last week at Blackwell High School, along with their runner-up contenders to be honored during Homecoming which will be held September 27. 

Reid Estep and Brock Jones were chosen as the Maroon Spirit runners-up. 

Maysa Edgar and Adisyn Peetoom were chosen as the Miss BHS runners-up. 

Maroon Spirit Carter Barriger is the son of Dan and Heather Barriger and the grandson of Kay and Art Barriger and Janet Irons. 

He has attended Blackwell schools his entire life and has been involved in baseball and the Student Council for 4 years. He has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll and the National Honor Society. 

Carter plans to attend Dodge City Community College followed by Southwestern Oklahoma State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and become an ICU Registered Nurse. 

Ms. BHS Matison McConnell is the daughter of Matt and Katie McConnell and the granddaughter of Linda and Ron McConnell and Leslie Holmes and Andy Angle.

Matison has been involved with FFCLA for 2 years as well as basketball, Student Council, and softball all for 4 years. 

She was a Basketball Royalty attendant her sophomore and junior years.

Matison wants to pursue a career in the medical field after high school. 
Maroon Spirit runner-up Reid Estep is the son of Tami and Mark Estep and the grandson of Pam and James Savage and Larry and Sandy Estep. 

Estep has been involved in baseball, the school newspaper, FFCLA, football, and the Student Council. Estep has also been on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll as well as recognized by the National Honor Society. 

Reid attends the IBC Church in Blackwell and his plans are to win the lottery or, failing that, attend college. 

Maroon Spirit runner-up Brock Jones is the son of Jessica Pepper and Greg Pepper and Joseph Jones. He is the grandson of Kathleen and Adrien Bleeker and Patricia Pepper. Brock has been involved in FCCLA and track and is in AP English II as well as Honors U.S. History. 

After high school Brock plans on getting a mechanic internship. 
Miss BHS runner-up Maysa Edgar is the daughter of April and E.J. Edgar and the granddaughter of Regina and Jim Jackson, Jerry and Diane Little, and Bob and Nancy Edgar. 

She has been involved in basketball, softball, Pep Club, Student Council, softball, and track and has been a BHS Wrestling Manager for 3 years. Maysa has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll as well as the National Honor Society. 

Maysa attends IBC Church in Blackwell and her future plans are undecided. 

Miss BHS runner-up Adisyn Peetoom is the daughter of Ryan and Kim Peetoom and the granddaughter of Robert and Cathy Peetoom and Terry and Sandy Evans. She has been involved in FFA / 4-H, Girl’s State Delegation, Pep Club, Student Council, softball, track, and was on the National Honor Society. She was a Sophomore and Junior escort for Wrestling Royalty. 

Adisyn attends the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa and plans to play softball in college.
