Maroons Make History, Claim 2025 Class 3A Wrestling State Championship

The Blackwell Maroons wrestling team delivered an unforgettable performance at the Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, securing the 2025 Class 3A State Championship in commanding fashion. Scoring an impressive 190.5 team points, Blackwell more than doubled the total of the second-place team, Salina (96.0), and left no doubt as to which program reigns supreme in Class 3A.

A Historic Night for Blackwell Wrestling

The championship victory was highlighted by a record-breaking performance from senior Kruz Goff, who became Blackwell’s first-ever four-time state champion. Goff (30-0) dominated his competition in the 215-pound division, pinning all three of his opponents, including a 1:04 fall over Cale McPeek (Pawnee) in the finals.

Meanwhile, sophomore Madden Edgar (39-4) stunned the wrestling community with the biggest upset of the entire 2025 State Wrestling Tournament. Competing in the 126-pound finals, Edgar took down a three-time defending state champion, Colt Collett (Checotah), in a thrilling 10-8 decision. Edgar’s win avenged his loss to Collett earlier in the season.  His incredible run through the bracket earned him the Outstanding Wrestler Award for Class 3A, making him only the sixth Blackwell wrestler ever to receive this honor—the first since 1973.

Blackwell’s Championship Lineup

The Maroons crowned an incredible six individual state champions, had two runner-ups, a third-place finisher, and a fourth-place finisher, further solidifying their dominant hold on Class 3A.

While some Maroons fell short of the podium, their efforts helped secure crucial team points, ensuring Blackwell’s championship dominance.

A New Standard of Excellence

Blackwell’s 190.5 team points marked the hight point total in Class 3A state tournament history. The Maroons finished well ahead of Salina (96.0) and perennial power Marlow (86.5), proving their status as the undisputed top team in Oklahoma’s Class 3A.

Looking Ahead

With several key wrestlers returning, including younger athletes who gained valuable experience at this year’s tournament, Blackwell’s future remains bright. The Maroons have set a new standard of excellence, and their 2025 championship run will go down as one of the greatest in Oklahoma high school wrestling history.

For now, Blackwell will celebrate a well-earned state title, a historic four-time champion, and an Outstanding Wrestler Award winner—but don’t expect them to rest for long. The Maroons have proven that they are the team to beat, and they’ll be ready to defend their crown next season.
